06.49.54 Canon Patent for EF 58mm f/1.4 Lens with a Controllable Soft-Focus | |
Canon has filed a new patent in Japan. The patent application describes an EF 58mm f/1.4 lens (JP 2018-97240) for full frame DSLR with a controllable soft-focus value. This will be a specialized lens for such needs as portraiture, street, event / wedding photography and astrophotography. The fast aperture of f/1.4 and a complex optical formula would also be ideal for low-light photography needs. The 58mm lens will feature an aperture range from f/1.4 to f/16 and a rounded 9-blade diaphragm for producing pleasing out-of-focus elements, or bokeh. If we see this lens in mass production in near future, it will compete against Nikon’s AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G lens. Canon EF 58mm f/1.4 Lens Patent
