Sony has just unveiled their latest vlogging camera, the Sony ZV-1 II, the exciting successor to the Sony ZV-1. This pocket-sized camera is packed with features designed to step up your vlogging game.

Let’s take a quick look at the camera and see what it has to offer content creators.

A look inside the ZV-1 II

The ZV-1 II houses a 1.0-type Exmor RS image sensor (about 20.1 effective megapixels), a BIONZ X image processing engine, and a newly minted ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 18-50 mm F1.8-4 lens. According to Sony, not only does this new wide-angle lens give you the flexibility to capture everything from group selfies to detailed interior shots, but the camera’s Multiple Face Recognition feature should ensure faces are sharp and clear.

In terms of shooting capabilities, the Sony ZV-1 II can record in stunning 4K resolution at a rate of up to 30 frames per second. The camera also features an ISO range extending from 125 to 12800, providing ample flexibility in various lighting conditions. Additionally, the camera has Sony’s Fast Hybrid AF System. Sony’s fitted the camera with AF Transition Speed for selecting the focus speed, AF Subject Shift Sensitivity for switching focus subjects and Real-time Eye AF, allowing the camera to track humans or animals for video.

The ZV-1 II is designed for content creators

The camera seemingly offers a ton of useful features for vloggers. The wide-angle 18-50 mm lens gives you a full view of the scene, allowing for great group shots. Also, the ZV-1 II’s Bokeh switch allows you to add an artistic blur to the background.

For audio, the camera can recognize whether it’s recording human faces or objects automatically. This allows it to switch the direction of its built-in intelligent 3-capsule microphone from Front, Rear or All Directions. It also has a 3.5 mm microphone jack, so you can connect an external microphone.

Additionally, the camera’s Cinematic Vlog Setting gives your videos a filmic touch by automatically setting a CinemaScope size (2.35:1) and a frame rate of 24 fps.

Build

The ZV-1 II looks quite compact. The body itself fits snugly in your hand. Plus, its button layout seems quite easy to operate. The camera features a USB Type-C, which is used for charging as well as connecting to your PC or smartphone for livestreaming or exporting files.

LCD panel, but no electronic viewfinder The ZV-1 II features a fully articulating LCD panel. Unfortunately, there’s still no electronic viewfinder — bummer. On the brighter side, it does retain the vari-angle LCD screen, a must for vloggers. Also, the screen supports touch focus and tracking.

What we think

Sony’s ZV-1 II builds upon the strengths of the original ZV-1, offering vloggers more flexibility and power in their pockets. The ZV-1 II looks to be a compact and versatile tool that vloggers should consider if they’re in need of a new vlogging camera.

Pricing and availability

The Sony ZV-1 II will be available from June 2023, with a price tag of $900.
